Aussie driver Daniel Ricciardo pulls the covers off an old V8-powered F1 car and goes for a road trip across the country in a new video from Red Bull Racing.
Formula One team Red Bull Racing has released a short film featuring Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo.
The film, titled F1 Car vs Outback – Daniel Ricciardo’s Great Aussie Road Trip, has Ricciardo visiting iconic Australian locations in a V8-powered F1 car from 2011.
In 2011, Red Bull’s driver line-up featured the recently-retired champion Sebastian Vettel alongside another Australian: Mark Webber.
However, while the latest Red Bull film is obviously a fictional road trip, it’s believed much – if not all – of the driving featured on screen was actually done by New Zealand Formula 2 driver Liam Lawson.
While the simulated radio chatter has Ricciardo sparring with Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen at Mt Panorama, it’s believed the vision was taken during Lawson’s demonstration lap during the Bathurst 12 Hour race in February 2023.

Lawson is also understood to have driven the car at Sea Cliff Bridge in New South Wales.
The video also appears to show Ricciardo climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, but this might also have been done by a stunt double, given he never takes off his full-face helmet.
For those willing to suspend disbelief, Ricciardo is also shown to be racing against other Red Bull ambassadors including Toby Price, Daniel Sanders, and pilot Matt Hall.
