2021 Subaru Outback Touring: owner review

I must admit a Subaru bias at the outset of this review.

What we love
  • Almost everything! I keep coming back for more
What we don’t
  • Extremely high levels of active and passive safety

I must admit a Subaru bias at the outset of this review.

We have owned at least six Subarus, as well as other SUVs and sedans from many makers, so we know this market well.

The 2021 Subaru Outback follows conservative ultra-safe Subaru design philosophy and offers more of all the features Subaru owners like.

Great resale value, easy predictable driving, superior safety, subtle styling changes rather than radical ‘look at me’ design, and the best technology specs in its class and beyond.

The only small flaw in the late 2021 model is that Subaru has forced not-so-subtle lane-keeping autonomy onto the driver.

If you don’t want the wheel sometimes resisting your lane-keeping efforts in bends, you must disable it every time you restart the engine. The previous models, and Foresters and XVs, allowed you to turn this override off selectively or permanently.

Many drivers may not notice or wouldn’t care, but I do.
