Government documents show the next-generation Honda CR-V is edging closer to local dealerships – possibly later this year – with a growth spurt that puts it on the brink of the next size category up.
The 2024 Honda CR-V is one step closer to Australia, with the new model expected to arrive in showrooms in the second half of 2023.
The new CR-V has been approved for sale in Australia, a database managed by the Federal Government shows – eight months after the SUV was first unveiled by Honda.
Recent Honda models have taken between four and seven months to go on sale after receiving the green light for local sale from regulators, which would point to a local launch between July and October 2023.
However, Honda Australia has told Drive there are “no further updates to share” at this stage.

The new-generation CR-V has increased in size compared to the outgoing model – placing it at the upper end of the Medium SUV segment (as defined by the peak new-car sales body in Australia).
The vehicle is now 59mm longer, 9mm wider, and 12mm taller than its predecessor, at 4694mm long, 1864mm wide, and 1691mm tall – with a 40mm longer wheelbase at 2700mm.
The CR-V will be one of largest vehicles in the Medium SUV segment, and will likely appeal to some buyers shopping in the Large SUV category – which includes the likes of the Mazda CX-8, Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento.
It is expected a choice of five or seven seats will be offered, as with the outgoing CR-V.

While Australian specifications have yet to be announced, US models are offered a choice of a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 142kW and 243Nm, or a 2.0-litre non-turbo four-cylinder hybrid mated with two electric motors to produce a total of 152kW and 335Nm.
The new model benefits from a range of new features and technologies, as well as benefiting from the latest design language found across the line-up.
The forthcoming Honda CR-V will be built in Thailand, like the standard model – but unlike the latest Civic, ZR-V and HR-V, which are all manufactured in Japan.
