Two new concept cars have been revealed by Foxtron, the automotive division of Taiwanese company Foxconn, which is best known for manufacturing Apple iPhones.
The world’s largest technology manufacturer and service provider has unveiled its new line-up of electric vehicles.
Foxconn, best known for producing the iPhone on behalf of Apple, showed off its new Model B compact SUV and Model V ute concepts, alongside the production version of its Model C SUV – all under the Foxtron automotive brand.
While full details of the Model V electric dual-cab ute weren’t revealed, Foxtron says it can drive up to 420km on a single charge and offers a payload capacity of one tonne – matching the dual-cab Toyota HiLux SR5.
The Taiwanese company described the Model V as an “all-terrain pick-up”, suggesting the ute has at least two electric motors for its all-wheel-drive system.
With a wheelbase of 3220mm, the Model V ute is 50mm shy of the dual-cab Ford Ranger, and is said to have a towing capacity of up to three tonnes – 500kg shy of the current diesel-powered ute segment leaders.
Meanwhile, Foxtron has turned to Pininfarina – the iconic Italian design house best known for styling Ferraris – to help shape the Model B.
Despite having a similar silhouette to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle, the Model B is smaller in all dimensions, and enjoys a low drag coefficient of 0.26 to help it achieve its 450km claimed range.
Details of the Model B’s battery also haven’t been disclosed, but it’s understood the compact SUV uses a single electric motor producing 169kW.
Inside, a giant 15.6-inch ‘floating’ touchscreen looks after infotainment duties, while a tiny screen ahead of the driver acts as the car’s instrument cluster, displaying crucial speed and driving range information.
To the sides of the dash are free-standing screens displaying the view from the side cameras, taking the place of mirrors.
The Model B concept shares its underpinnings with the larger Model C – the first model to head to production.
With 338kW, the Model C is said to hit 100km/h from a standstill in 3.8 seconds, with a claimed range of 700km.
Foxtron says it’s already received 15,000 pre-orders for the vehicle in less than two days, with deliveries expected to begin in selected markets in 2023.
