Subaru Australia just broke its all-time annual sales record, with a full month of sales yet to be counted.
The company sold 48,379 cars between January 1 and November 30, 2017. For comparison, it sold 47,018 cars for all of 2016, and 43,600 for all of 2015.
It’s tenth overall in market, behind an even faster-growing Kia (up nearly 30 per cent) and ahead of Honda (also up, by an impressive 14 per cent and returning to its pomp).
Subaru’s annual percentage growth this year sits at more than 12 per cent, in an overall market only up 0.6 per cent. It has recorded sales increases (over the equivalent month in the previous year) for 35 consecutive months.
Driving the growth is the new Impreza, which is selling up a storm compared to its frumpy predecessor. Deliveries have about tripled, albeit from a low base.
The brand new XV crossover derivative is also performing well, about offsetting slight declines from its other two SUVs – the big-selling but ageing Forester, and the Outback.
Subaru managing director Colin Christie said: “We are grateful that our new generation cars in particular are proving so popular in showrooms and bringing a significant number of new customers to the Subaru brand.
“It’s also encouraging that we have consistent interest across our passenger cars, sports and SUV stable, meaning we’ve got strong appeal across all our key market segments.
“We’ve also just announced our revised BRZ line-up, which will likely spike further interest heading to year’s end.”
Subaru Australia’s importer Inchcape is also broadening its strategy to offer buyers an alternative to brick-and-mortar dealerships, with three new temporary pop-up shops now open.
