Infiniti Australia has issued a recall notice for 104 examples of its Q50 sedans and Q60 coupes, over an issue with the malfunction indicator light.
According to the company, cars fitted with the VR30DDTT V6 engine haven’t been programmed to indicate failure of the automatic transmission. The problem is caused by a mismatch between the new Electronic Control Module and the old Controlled Area Network, both of which are part of the on-board diagnosis communication architecture.
If something goes wrong with the transmission, the warning light won’t illuminate, which means the driver won’t actually know about the problem. Infiniti says this could also make cars non-compliant with emissions regulations.
A list of the affected VIN numbers can be viewed here.
Infiniti will contact owners of the affected cars by mail, and tell them to contact their dealer so the recalcitrant Electronic Control Module module reprogrammed.
