Audi A6 spied with new lighting signature

The 2018 Audi A6 has been snapped during cold-weather testing, sporting a funky new light signature.

Out back, the new sedan has been fitted with a set of LED tail-lights which, to our eyes at least, take their inspiration from those of the A7 Sportback. Don’t be surprised if – like the A8 and A7 – the new A6 has a slim strip of LED lights running across the boot-lid, connecting the two sets of rear lights.

Up front, the A6 prototype has LED lights which are both wider and slimmer than those of the current car. They also feature some interesting detailing in their corners, although it’s slightly more subdued than the aggressive look of the A7.

The lights flank a larger new grille, while the line of the bonnet has also changed compared to the outgoing car. These all sound like small changes, sure, but they’ll likely add up to a much more modern looking car than the current model.

When it lands next year, the A6 will face off with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series. The engine lineup is yet to be confirmed, but the car is expected to be offered with a range of turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines, along with a potential bi-turbo V8 performance hero.

It should also bring the latest semi-autonomous driver assists to the table.
