The Aria Group has taken the wraps off its new FXE hypercar at the Los Angeles motor show, with its sights firmly set on the hypercar elite when it goes on sale in 2019.
Based in California, the Aria Group is known for its involvement in concept vehicle design, including the Kia GT4 Stinger concept and the Tesla Model S concept.
However, the FXE is the company’s first attempt at a production vehicle – and boy are they making a grand entrance.
Power comes from a mid-mounted 6.2-litre supercharged V8, paired with two electric motors on the front axle and a 10kWh battery pack.
Aria claims combined outputs of 858kW (1150bhp) and a whopping 1785Nm of torque, channeled through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Weighing 1565 kilograms, the FXE is said to sprint from 0-60mph (0-96m/h) in 3.1 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 220mph (354km/h).
Those figures would put it in the same league as the recent ‘Holy Trinity’ – the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 – though a 2019 on-sale date means the game will have likely moved on by then.
In fact, the Mercedes-AMG Project One and Aston Martin Valkyrie are set to hit the market around the same time, and should not only better the FXE in a straight line, but also around a circuit – at least if Mercedes’s and Aston Martin’s claims are accurate.
Like most hypercars, the Aria FXE boasts an imposing and aerodynamic design, with plenty of splitters, wings and grilles scattered around the exterior.
There are also exposed headlights, and a massive rear diffuser that wouldn’t look out of place on a high-end speedboat.
Filling the arches are 20-inch front and 21-inch rear forged centre-lock wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R rubber.
According to reports, less than 400 Aria FXEs will be produced, and pricing is only available on application – though a figure beyond US$1 million ($1.32 million) is likely.
