2019 Porsche Mission E spied during winter testing

The Porsche Mission E has been spied again, this time undergoing cold weather testing near the Arctic Circle.

Although the prototypes seen here are wearing the same level of disguise as the vehicles in our first batch of spy photos, the snow-covered surroundings and low winter sun do show off more of the Mission E’s curves and detailing.

Up front there’s a just a bit of tape hiding the Porsche badge, and some false panels surrounding the headlight clusters. Around the side, there’s also some disguise on the car’s C-pillar.

Most of the car’s black camouflage is saved for the rear, with parts of the tail-light assembly, boot lid garnish and rear bumper obfuscated. There’s also a false set of exhaust tips stuck onto the diffuser-style element.

As we noted earlier, the production version of the Mission E remains faithful to the 2015 concept car, but has a less aggressively curved roof line, which should make the rear seat a more acceptable place for those parked back there.

The production version also loses the rear suicide doors from the concept. The Mission E looks to be smaller than the second-generation Panamera, which is over five metres long in standard wheelbase form.

According to our spy agency, the Mission E prototypes seen here got a stern test, as it was a chilly -20 degrees Celsius when these photos were snapped.

The Mission E’s drivetrain details have yet to be confirmed, but the concept had a total of 440kW of power from two electric motors. The concept was said to be capable of 500km on a full charge, and had a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds.

It’s still not clear when the Mission E will be launched or when it will go on sale, but rumours indicate a debut possibly late in 2018 or early 2019.

When it does hit showrooms, it will likely be pitched against the Tesla Model S.
