A teaser image for what could be a first look at the big next-generation 2018 Infiniti QX80 has been handed down today, ahead of a New York motor show debut.
The Japanese luxury marque hasn’t revealed much about the new model, with the image accompanied by the following:
“Huge unveil. April 11, 2017. New York. #INFINITI #EmpowerTheDrive #NYIAS.”
Infiniti’s largest model, the QX80 (above), is the likely model to be previewed by the New York concept, based on the fact it’s ‘huge’, and that the current-generation version has been on the market globally since 2010 – so it’s pretty much due for replacement.
Of course, any replacement for the QX80 is likely to again be based on the Nissan Patrol, which could suggest a successor to that big off-roader is also nearing.
Based on the ‘Y62’ generation Patrol, the current QX80 features a 5.6-litre naturally-aspirated V8, developing a healthy 298kW of power and 560Nm of torque.
Compared to the vehicle on sale today, the SUV featured in the teaser image ditches the ‘Moby Dick’ front end for a far sharper and more athletic-looking face, looking similar to recent Infiniti concepts such as the QX Sport Inspiration (below) revealed at last year’s Beijing auto show – which is set to preview the upcoming QX50 SUV that was recently spied testing.
We’ll have to wait a little longer to get a proper look at Infiniti’s new SUV, so stay tuned to CarAdvice for our coverage of the 2017 New York motor show.
