The 2017 World Car of the Year award winners have been announced this week at the New York motor show, with the Jaguar F-Pace taking top honours.

Jaguar’s first SUV took out the flagship World Car of the Year award, making the F-Pace the first British car to take the overall win since the awards were inaugurated in 2003.

Going one better, the F-Pace also took out the World Car Design of the Year award.

World Urban Car of the Year went to the BMW i3 94Ah, while the plug-in Toyota Prius Prime won World Green Car.

Finally, the Porsche 718 Boxster (below) and Cayman twins won World Performance Car, beating established supercars in the new Audi R8 Spyder and McLaren 570S.
