Local pricing and specifications for the facelifted 2017 Skoda Octavia range have been released this week, bringing new driver assistance technologies, upgraded infotainment and increased value to the Czech liftback and wagon.

Prices are slightly up on last year’s model, with the entry-level 110TSI manual liftback kicking off $500 higher at $23,490 before on-road costs, topping out at $43,990 for the DSG-equipped RS 135TDI wagon (up $1000).

The model names have seen revisions, too. Gone are the Ambition and Style nameplates, replaced with simply ‘Octavia‘ at the base level and ‘Sport’ for the mid-range variant.

Distinguishing features of the updated range compared to last year’s model include the new – and somewhat controversial – dual headlight design, revised alloy wheels on the outside, and the availability of upgraded infotainment systems on the inside.

Standard equipment for the base Octavia 110TSI includes seven airbags, 17-inch ‘Trius’ alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped sports steering wheel, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear centre armrest, driver fatigue monitor, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, manual height-adjustable front seats with lumbar support, dual-zone climate control, a new rear-view camera system with multiple viewing modes, LED tail-lights, voice control and an umbrella under the front passenger seat.

Also included as standard across the range are front assist with city autonomous emergency braking (AEB), multi-collision brake, adaptive cruise control, floor mats, double-sided boot floor mat, mobile phone holder and a driver’s door waste bin.

Stepping up to the Octavia Sport 110TSI (from $29,990) adds niceties like full-LED headlights, sports seats, passenger protect assist – which includes two additional airbags bringing the total to nine – automatic headlights and wipers, along with larger 18-inch ‘Turini’ dark alloy wheels, lowered sports suspension, black rear spoiler (sedan), black mirror caps, along with black side door and tailgate trims.

Engines for the non-RS models are carried over from the pre-facelift car, with the 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo petrol mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG transmission.

At the top of the Octavia range are the RS models, with the turbo petrol 169TSI starting at $38,890 and the turbo-diesel 135TDI kicking off at a slightly dearer $42,490 before on-road costs.

The petrol models see a slight power increase on their predecessors, up 7kW to match the higher 169kW/360Nm tune of the Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance (and the upcoming Golf 7.5 GTI), while the diesel models’s outputs remain unchanged (135kW/380Nm) for the new range.

RS petrols are fitted as standard with a six-speed manual with a six-speed DSG optional, while diesel versions get the six-speed dual-clutch shifter as standard.

In addition to the specification of the Octavia Sport, RS models get a ‘Black Pack’ as standard, with 18-inch ‘Gemini’ alloy wheels in black, and black body trims.

Other equipment upgrades include a new 9.2-inch infotainment system (the largest in Skoda’s range) with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with an eight-speaker sound system.

There are also a duo of option packages available across the range, including the Tech Pack – adding the 9.2-inch navigation system for Octavia and Octavia Sport variants, full-LED headlights (Octavia), automatic parking assist (all models), adaptive chassis control for RS variants, keyless entry and start (all models), a premium Canton audio system with 10-speakers and digital equaliser (all models), selectable driving modes (Octavia, Octavia Sport), automatic ‘see me home’ headlights and automatic wipers (Octavia), manoeuvre braking assist (all models), and a personalisation key which saves vehicle set-up preferences (Octavia, Octavia Sport).

Second is the Luxury Pack, which adds leather-appointed seats (Octavia) or red-stiched leather sports seats (RS), electrically-adjustable front seats with memory (Octavia, RS), lane assist (all models), side assist with blind spot monitoring (all models), passenger protect assist with nine airbags (Octavia), and auto folding and dimming door mirrors with environmental lights (Octavia).

Meanwhile, the off-road styled Octavia Scout won’t be available from launch, but will join the range later this year.

All Octavia models are available to order now, with Octavia and Octavia Sport models already in dealerships while RS models will arrive in the coming months, and the entire range is covered by a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty.
