There’s a new electric vehicle coming from Mazda in 2025, and it’s said to be adopting the badge of a current SUV from the brand.
A senior Mazda executive has revealed the company has plans to launch a new electric vehicle in 2025.
During an interview with website Automotive News, the CEO of the company’s North American division, Tom Donnelly, confirmed Mazda has plans to launch a new electric model wearing a badge from the current line-up.
The company has previously announced its intention to introduce three electric cars in the next two years, though overseas media reports this revelation is new and unrelated to the earlier figure.
Mr Donnelly did not provide any further details, such as the size of the vehicle.
Automotive News speculates it could be a replacement for the CX-5, which in the US is sold alongside the newer and slightly-larger CX-50 – with the same engines and similar prices.

Drive has previously reported a successor to the CX-5 is due in 2025 or later – given the current model is coming to the end of its model life after launching in 2017.
However given it is Mazda’s top seller globally, it could still offer a choice of petrol or electric power for markets where electric vehicles are not yet as popular.
Another option is a replacement for the MX-30, the company’s first mass-produced electric vehicle – which was axed in the US in August 2023.
The MX-30 – offered in Australia as a mild-hybrid or electric car, but only sold as the latter in the US – struggled to gain meaningful sales in the country due to its high relative price and 161km driving range.
However the MX-30 was only launched in 2020, making it premature for a replacement by 2025.
