Ferrari SP-8 one-off V8 roadster revealed

Just one Ferrari SP-8 will be built, with a loyal Taiwanese customer ordering the F8 Spider-based roadster.

Ferrari’s latest bespoke supercar has been revealed, with the Italian car-maker taking the roof off the now-defunct F8 Spider to create its newest ‘Special Project’ model.

Dubbed the SP-8, this one-off custom version of the F8 Spider – which is no longer in production, replaced by the V6 hybrid 296 GTS – was commissioned by a loyal Ferrari customer in Taiwan.

While the F8 Spider has the option of its hardtop roof being up or down, the SP-8 does not have a roof – exposing its occupants to the elements and its twin-turbo 3.9-litre V8 soundtrack.

Compared to the car upon which it is based, the Ferrari SP-8 gains bespoke headlights, a 296 GTB-derived windscreen and exhaust tips, new bumpers and front ‘bonnet’, reshaped rear and side bodywork, and a unique 3D-printed aluminium grille designed to increase airflow to its front-mounted radiators.

According to Ferrari, the SP-8’s five-spoke ‘directional’ wheels are a modern interpretation of its classic alloy designs, most notably the wheels fitted to its F40 supercar from the late 1980s.

Additional nods to past Ferraris include longitudinal ‘strakes’ across the engine cover and the grille, paying tribute to the Testarossa – while its matte Argento Micalizzato, carbon fibre and Blue Sandstone exterior finish is unique to the one-off model.

Inside, the SP-8’s interior is upholstered in Navy Blue Alcantara and leather, with twill carpets lining the floor.

The SP-8 also borrows the SF90’s ‘gated’ automatic gear selector, with toggle switches in the shape of the manual transmission gear patterns in classic Ferrari models.

Ferrari has not announced how much the one-off model costs to build, in line with previous models from the ‘Special Projects’ range such as the SP48 Unica and BR20.
