The driver of the Holden Commodore reportedly recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.187 after reversing into a police car.
A 25-year old Victorian man has been taken into police custody after reversing into a police car while under the effects of alcohol.
According to a Victoria Police report, the incident occurred in the city of Wodonga, near the NSW border.
Police said they stopped a 2008 Holden Commodore in the early hours of the morning, at which point the driver selected reverse instead of park and reversed into the patrol car.
The driver and the police officers were reportedly not injured in the crash.
Following the incident, the driver accompanied officers back to the police station for further breath tests.
The 25-year-old driver allegedly provided a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) reading of 0.187 – almost four times the legal limit.
The national legal alcohol limit for fully licenced drivers in Australia is 0.05.
The man’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days, and he was given a bill of $1115 to have his car towed.
He will also be required to appear in court, and is expected to face charges relating to traffic-related offences.
Sergeant O’Keefe of Wodonga Police said in a media statement: “This is very concerning. This is the second high-range drink-driver caught in Wodonga this week.
“Thankfully no one was injured or killed tonight.”
