2024 Mitsubishi Outlander gains minor updates, price rises in Australia

The Mitsubishi Outlander has been given a mild update in Australia, accompanied by price rises of up to $800.

The 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander line-up has been detailed, with both petrol and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models receiving minor changes.

Mitsubishi has increased prices by between $500 and $800 for the Outlander range, the second price increase in less than six months – and following a price hike of up to $2500 for the Outlander PHEV mid last year.

The entry-level Outlander ES 2WD five-seater now starts from $37,740 before on-road costs – $3250 dearer than it was when the new-generation Outlander petrol range arrived two years ago.

Meanwhile the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV ES five-seater now starts from $56,490 plus on-road costs – $1900 more expensive than it was at launch in August 2022.

Mitsubishi has also dropped the all-wheel-drive version of the Outlander ES for the 2024 Model Year (MY2024), with the Outlander LS AWD now the cheapest all-wheel-drive model starting at $43,740 before on-road costs – compared to $39,740 for the now-defunct ES AWD.

The Exceed Tourer AWD seven-seater has been hit with the biggest price change since the new Outlander launched, increasing by $5200 in a little over two years.

Along with some new paint options, all 2024 Outlanders now benefit from “always on” automatic headlights, an LED rear fog lamp, and a back seat alert function – which reminds the driver at the end of a journey to check the rear seats.

Mitsubishi Australia has also announced the Outlander Black Edition will be a standalone model, rather than being a limited-edition off-shoot of the LS grade as it was previously.

As you would expect, the Black Edition includes black interior upholstery inside, along with black exterior highlights and black 20-inch alloy wheels – with exterior paint options limited to prestige black, prestige white, prestige red, and the new metallic Graphite Grey colour.

The regular Outlander continues to be powered by a 2.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 135kW and 245Nm to either the front wheels or all four wheels, depending on the model.

Fuel consumption is claimed at 8.1 litres per 100km combined (city and highway), with combined CO2 emissions of 185g per kilometre.

The Outlander PHEV instead uses a 2.4-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine combined with two electric motors powering each axle, for a combined 185kW and 450Nm, with a claimed electric driving range of 84km – making for claimed fuel consumption of 1.5L/100km and CO2 emissions of 35g/km.

As with the outgoing model, the 2024 Outlander comes with autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot warning, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, and speed limit assist (for cruise control).

Buyers can choose from two accessory packs: the Protection Pack with bonnet protector, side wind deflectors, floor mats, luggage tray, and cargo plate, and the Style Set, which includes a black bonnet badge, decals, and paint colour-matched body garnishes.

The 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander range is available to order now, with the company telling Drive last month it expects current wait times of three-to-six months to fall as stock levels increase.
