2023 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y prices rise weeks after RRPs were cut

Tesla in Australia has announced a new round of price changes across its electric-car range in a matter of weeks – with four models going up and two going down.

Four of the six vehicles across the 2023 Tesla Model 3 electric sedan and its closely-related sibling, the 2023 Tesla Model Y electric SUV, have gone up in price in Australia less than a month after RRPs were slashed.

Tesla has increased prices by $400 for two of the three variants offered in each of the Model 3 and Model Y line-ups, while the Model 3 Performance has gone down by $195, and the Model Y Performance has dropped by $2595.

The cost of entry into a Tesla is now $61,300 before on-road costs for the rear-wheel-drive Model 3, while those wanting the extra space of the rear-wheel-drive Model Y will be paying $69,300 plus on-road costs.

The $400 price increase for the rear-wheel-drive Model Y comes less than a month after $400 was cut from its price.

Despite the $400 increase for the entry-level Tesla Model Y, the vehicle remains under the Luxury Car Tax threshold of $84,916 – provided the vehicle is order in white with standard 19-inch alloy wheels, and no additional options are added.

In early April 2023, Tesla dropped the price of rear-wheel-drive and Long Range variants by $3400, and as much as $4420 for the Model 3 Performance.

Over the past month, the Australian Dollar has fallen to the US Dollar by approximately 1.21 per cent, while the Aussie has lost approximately 0.01 per cent against the Chinese Yuan.

All Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y vehicles sold in Australia today are built in China.

It’s believed this is the 15th price change since the Model 3 went on sale in Australia in 2019.

Model Y Performance buyers are still expected to take delivery between May and June if an order is placed today, while the Model Y Long Range has an estimated delivery of between June and July.

All Model 3 variants have delivery estimates of between May and June at the time of publishing.
