Formula One team Red Bull Racing has capitalised on its title-winning 2022 season by unveiling a pair of racing simulators based on last year’s dominant racer.
Reigning Formula One championship winners Red Bull have released a pair of racing simulators based on the team’s 2022 title winning car – but Australian buyers will need to fork out more than $170,000 to buy the ultimate man cave addition.
Both simulators are based on the RB18, the car which delivered Red Bull Racing its fifth Formula One team’s championship thanks to 17 wins from 22 races in 2022. The 2022 driver’s champion, Max Verstappen, won 15 races while team-mate Sergio Perez collected two victories.
Available through the F1 Authentics website, the Red Bull Racing simulators are available in two grades: the $139,027 ‘Race Edition’ and the $185,369 ‘Champions Edition’ – and no, those prices are not a typo.
It’s worth noting the above prices also don’t include the cost of shipping to Australia, listed at approximately £16,500 – equivalent to $30,000.
According to the listing, the simulators are “made using the same processes as the real race cars” thanks to design data from Red Bull Racing, while the team’s 2022 livery has been applied to the exterior, available with either Verstappen’s number #1 or Perez’s #11.
Despite the $45,000 price difference, the only extra features on the Champions Edition simulator is the addition of a nose and front wing assembly – parts which create crucial downforce in real life but won’t make drivers any faster on the virtual track.
High-end sim racing hardware such as a PC, curved screen monitor, F1-style steering wheel, pedals and speakers are also included in the purchase price, meaning buyers don’t have to bring their own gear to get the simulators running.
F1 Authentics claims the simulators will take approximately four to six weeks to ship internationally from Europe, meaning Australian buyers who order now should receive their purchase by the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in late April.
The second round of the 2023 Formula One World Championship is due to take place this weekend at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia.
