The Mazda 3 small car is slated to receive an upgraded interior with a larger infotainment screen in the coming months, according to a new report.
An updated 2024 Mazda 3 small car is coming soon to showrooms with improved technology, according to a new overseas report.
Japanese website Creative Trend reports the Mazda 3 hatchback and sedan range is slated to receive a moderate upgrade in the northern spring of 2023 (Australia’s autumn, from March to May) – about four years after the current model went on sale.
Leading the updates is said to be a larger infotainment screen, now measuring 12.3 inches in top-of-the range models – up from 8.8 inches today, and matching Mazda’s newly-introduced CX-60 SUV.
This update is expected to serve as the mid-life ‘facelift’ for the Mazda 3 – which went on sale four years ago – but unusually, the Japanese website says there are “no major changes to the interior and exterior design” planned.
It appears the Mazda 3 will miss out on the widescreen 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that debuted in the CX-60, or any exterior changes similar to recent facelifts for the Mazda 2 city car or CX-8 large SUV.
The publication reports there will be some other mild changes: Sonic Silver Metallic and ‘Ceramic Metallic’ colours, the CD player will be deleted, and the base-model 15S sedan in Japan will reportedly be axed.
MORE: Mazda 3 turbo no closer to Australia
There is no word on engine upgrades, and Mazda Australia executives recently confirmed to Drive there has been no update on a right-hand-drive version of the Mazda 3 Turbo hot hatch.
A Mazda Australia spokesperson declined to comment on plans for a Mazda 3 update.
The 2024 Mazda 3 update is due in Japanese showrooms in the northern spring of 2023, or between March and May this year. If past Mazda model releases are a guide, it is likely to arrive in Australia in the second half of this year.
