One of North America’s most iconic sports-cars has earned its stripes, but it won’t be used to catch speeders.
Police in Canada have added a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 sports-car to its fleet.
As initially reported by Carscoops, the Chevrolet was on display at the 2023 Canadian International Auto Show last week, with the C8 Corvette wearing the colours of the Ontario Provincial Police.
Unlike in the Need for Speed video game, the mid-engined sports-car won’t be engaging in high-speed pursuits – instead the Corvette is on loan to be used as a promotional vehicle to help the police force with recruiting.
In a nod to NASCAR greats Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Junior – who both drove for Chevrolet – the ‘unit’ number on the side of the vehicle was created by merging their two racing numbers.
It’s not the first time a Corvette has been used for community events.
In June 2022, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office in Florida adopted a previously-generation C7 Corvette it had seized from criminals to be used for community engagement.

In October 2022, State Troopers in Texas introduced a modified 2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat as a highway patrol car, after also confiscating the car when it was used in illegal street racing.
Of course, some of the most famous police cars belong to the Dubai Police in the United Arab Emirates, which use some of the most exotic supercars to help catch wrongdoers.
In its fleet are a Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari FF, Aston Martin One-77, BMW i8, Audi R8 V10, McLaren MP4-12C, and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.
