Four years after it made its debut, the Renault Clio is getting a major facelift. It is unclear if and when it would return to Australia.
The 2024 Renault Clio has been spied while being filmed on the streets of Valencia in Spain this week – but there is no news on plans for a return o Australian showrooms.
User Juanjo García on social media platform Twitter posted a short video of the Clio online, without realising he had captured the upcoming update to Renault’s Toyota Yaris rival before it was meant to be seen.
This is the major mid-life facelift for the Clio – with the fifth-generation model unveiled in 2019 – bringing the small hatchback into line with the sharper, sleeker styling changes being introduced across company’s line-up.
The current-generation Renault Clio is not sold in Australia, and it is not clear if there are plans for it to return for its mid-life upgrade.

Renault Australia indicated plans in 2019 to launch the fifth-generation Clio in 2020, but they were scrapped less than 18 months later, citing slowing sales of city cars, and rising costs.
The French brand’s local presence later switched from a factory-backed operation to independent importer and distributor Ateco in early 2021, as first reported by Drive.
The Clio was last on sale in Australia in 2019 and recorded 814 vehicles sold in that year – compared to the Hyundai Accent, which was the segment leader in 2019 with almost 10,000 sales – forcing Renault to focus on more popular and lucrative SUV segments in Australia.
However, a spokesperson for the company’s local division contacted by Drive this week refused to rule out a return of the Clio, telling Drive the brand considers all Renault models built in right-hand-drive for Australia.
