Cupra Leon, Formentor VZe plug-in hybrids back on sale

The second batch of Cupra Formentor and Leon plug-in hybrid cars is on sale now, after the first allocation sold out last year.

Cupra Australia has secured a second batch of 2023 Cupra Formentor VZe and Leon VZe plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), due in Australia in the second half of this year.

The initial batch of “just over 100” Leon and Formentor plug-in hybrids sold out in a few weeks after the vehicles was made available in October.

A second allocation of cars is now on sale through Cupra’s website, which are scheduled for delivery starting in the second half of 2023 – or five to 10 months from now.

A Cupra Australia spokesperson told Drive there is currently no cap on the number of cars in the second batch, and the availability of vehicles will depend on demand and production capacity – however it is estimated there will be more than 100 vehicles available to purchase.

The price of the Cupra Leon VZe was cut by $500 earlier this month – to $59,990 plus on-road costs – while the Formentor VZe was increased by $2000, to $62,990 plus on-road costs.

Vehicles ordered before 31 March 2023 will continue to include three years of free servicing.

“Australia is in hot competition with other markets for Cupra’s [battery-electric vehicles] and [plug-in hybrids],” Cupra Australia director Ben Wilks said in a media statement.

“The response to Born, Leon and Formentor VZes demonstrates the desire for cutting-edge zero- and low-emission vehicles.”
