Record batch of 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric cars on sale January 19

A new batch of Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric cars is set to go on sale later this month, containing 250 cars – the largest since launch more than a year ago.

The largest-ever allocation of Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicles for Australia is due to become available to order on 19 January.

Hyundai Australia has confirmed 250 Ioniq 5s will be made available on its website at 1pm AEDT on Thursday, January 19 – the largest allocation since the electric car launched in September 2021.

The new batch will make the Ioniq 5 available for buyers in the Northern Territory for the first time, after they were excluded from all eight previous allocations.

Hyundai Australia says all cars in the latest batch have arrived in Australia – which it says will see customers in the latest batch take delivery within two and four weeks of placing an order on January 19.

The new allocation is the first time buyers will be able to order the new flagship Epiq model grade – fitted with hi-tech camera side ‘mirrors’, among other features – that arrived as part of an upgraded 2023 Ioniq 5 line-up announced last year.

Of the 250 vehicles planned to be made available, Hyundai Australia says 44 are entry-level Dynamiq 2WD models, 143 are mid-grade Techniq AWD variants, and 63 are flagship Epiq AWD versions.

Hyundai Australia also says it has expanded the network of dealerships (or ‘delivery agents’) authorised to deliver Ioniq 5 electric cars to 25 for the new year – up from 10 at launch in late 2021.

But customers are still required to order Ioniq 5 vehicles through Hyundai Australia’s website – at fixed, non-negotiable prices – rather than through Hyundai Australia dealerships, even though showrooms deliver cars to customers, and service them.

Prices are unchanged from the announcement of the Model Year 2023 range in October 2022, ranging from $72,000 to $85,000 plus on-road costs. Click here for more details.
