2024 Ford Mustang due in Australia earlier than anticipated

The first new Ford Mustang for Australia in eight years is due a few months earlier than expected, with a choice of four-cylinder or V8 power.

The next-generation 2024 Ford Mustang is due in Australian showrooms a few months earlier than expected, Ford Australia has advised.

When the new Mustang was revealed in Detroit in September 2022, Ford Australia confirmed planned showroom arrival timing of “late 2023” – shortly after US deliveries begin in the northern summer (June to August).

The company has now indicated the new Ford Mustang is due early in the third quarter of 2023 – which translates to first deliveries in July or early August, pending any delays.

Pricing and a complete list of specifications are yet to be confirmed for Australia, but the range will again include an entry-level turbo four-cylinder variant and the 5.0-litre V8 GT.

Sitting at the top of the range will be a new Dark Horse V8 race-track special, with more power, track tyres and suspension, and unique styling touches. It will fill the role of the outgoing Ford Mustang Mach 1, though the Dark Horse won’t be a limited edition.

In the US, Ford has confirmed all models will receive more power: 234kW/474Nm (up 4kW) for the 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbo, up to 362kW/562Nm (up 30kW/24Nm) for the GT, and 373kW/562Nm for the 5.0-litre Dark Horse.

Whether these figures carry across to Australian models – once they are put through local emissions testing – remains to be seen.

A six-speed manual transmission is now available only in the V8 models – while a 10-speed auto is available across the range. All models remain rear-wheel drive.

Prices are yet to be confirmed for any international market, but the upgraded engines and new technology are expected to see increases from the current range, which is priced from $52,590 plus-on road costs for a four-cylinder manual coupe, or $65,290 for a GT manual coupe.
