Nissan apprentices in Japan have created a monstrous mash-up for the answer to a question that nobody asked.
The Nissan Fairlady X is never coming to showrooms.
Its job is to turn heads and drop jaws at the opening day of the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon – the biggest modified-car show in Japan – on 13 January 2023.
The collision between the front of the new Nissan Z sports car and the mid-section and tail of the Nissan Murano SUV looks, er, awkward.
As you might expect, it created a complicated engineering and panel beating exercise for Nissan apprentices in Japan.
Spotted by Carscoops, the Nissan Fairlady X show car is a project to test the design, engineering and assembly skills of Nissan’s next batch of trainees at its technical college in Japan.
They took the headlights and grille from the new Nissan Z sports-car, then modified the front bumper and tail-light section so it could be matched to the back end of the SUV.
There is no information about the engine.
Inside, the Nissan basics are upgraded with a pair of Recaro aftermarket seats and a sports steering wheel.
“I confirm that the vehicle is made by a student of Nissan Automobile Technical College, and will be showcased at their stand in TAS (Tokyo Auto Salon),” a spokesman for Nissan Motor Company said.
“Although this is not directly Nissan (meaning Nissan Motor Company) involved, it is a part of Nissan stories.”
