ANCAP has applied the electric LDV Mifa 9’s five-star rating to its petrol-powered Mifa sibling, with the pair going on sale as the safest people movers to be rated in Australia.
The 2023 LDV Mifa people mover from China has earned a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), based on testing of its electric Mifa 9 sibling.
Earlier this month, the electric LDV Mifa 9 was awarded a five-star safety rating, courtesy of scores which made it the safest people mover to be tested under ANCAP’s 2020-2022 criteria – outscoring the Kia Carnival, Hyundai Staria and Volkswagen Caddy.
ANCAP says it has been provided data to show electric people mover’s scores apply to the petrol-powered Mifa, which arrived in showrooms last month.
The LDV Mifa achieved scores of 93 per cent for Adult Occupant Protection, 88 per cent for Child Occupant Protection, 73 per cent for Vulnerable Road User Protection (pedestrians and cyclists), and 90 per cent for its Safety Assist technology.
A 93 per cent Adult Occupant Protection rating was achieved thanks to perfect scores in the full width frontal, side impact, and rescue and extraction tests, coming within a point of full marks across all other criteria.
The LDV Mifa scored 90 per cent in the Safety Assist category due to the people mover not losing any points for its driver monitoring, lane support and autonomous emergency braking junction assist systems.
As with the Mifa 9, six of the Mifa’s seven seats are fitted with seat belt reminders, with the centre position in the third row missing out on the technology.
A Child Occupant Protection result of 88 per cent was awarded through full marks in the front and side dynamic tests, with the Mifa losing 0.59 points for restraint installation and five points for on-board safety features.
ANCAP’s 73 per cent score for the LDV Mifa’s Vulnerable Road User Protection came from a high rating for lower leg impacts.
However, the LDV people mover lost 1.36 points for upper leg impacts and recorded marginal results around the edge of the bonnet. A stiff base of the windscreen led to weak and poor scores, resulting in a 10.74 point penalty for head impacts.
The LDV Mifa arrived in showrooms last month, priced from $53,990 to $72,990 drive-away.
