Almost a year after Toyota published images of its small electric four-wheel-drive, sleuths have discovered it could end up being called the Yaris Cruiser.
The 2024 Toyota Yaris Cruiser could be the name of the company’s small electric off-road vehicle.
Toyota unveiled the Compact Cruiser EV concept during its electric vehicle showcase in December 2021, but recently-uncovered evidence suggests the four-wheel-drive could join the Yaris hatchback, GR Yaris hot hatch, and Yaris Cross SUV in the brand’s small-car line-up.
Japanese publication Car Moby discovered the concept had ‘Yaris Cruiser’ printed on the tyres in a small handful of images published by Toyota – though the writing was removed in most of the images of the vehicle.
Despite being revealed almost a year ago, it took until very recently for anyone to notice.
The manufacturer may not have made its mind up on a production name for the Compact Cruiser EV, with LiteCruiser also spotted in graphics on the concept’s dashboard during a video presentation at the event.

The small off-roader looks to be a direct response by Toyota to the wild popularity of the Suzuki Jimny, with wait times for the Jimny blowing out to more than 12 months at one point.
The Toyota concept marries retro looks of the FJ Cruiser with the ruggedness of a small off-roader, with the company hinting at electric propulsion for the vehicle when it eventually arrives.
Whether it’s called the Toyota Yaris Cruiser or the Toyota LiteCruiser – or does not move beyond the concept car phase – is yet to be confirmed.
