The Toyota Yaris Hybrid electric drive system could suddenly lose power, according to the recall notice.
Japanese car giant Toyota has recalled 298 examples of its 2020 Toyota Yaris Hybrid due to a software malfunction relating to the city car’s hybrid system.
According to Toyota, the recall affects Yaris Hybrid Ascent Sport, Yaris Hybrid SX and Yaris Hybrid ZR variants built in 2020.
The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a software error, during sudden acceleration the Hybrid System may fail to engage the limp mode safety feature of the vehicle.
“This could cause warning lights to illuminate and result in sudden loss of motive power.
“A loss of motive power while driving increases the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”
