The new Maserati GranTurismo will be powered by the company’s in-house 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, set to be offered alongside an 883kW electric variant.
The first images of the petrol-powered version of the 2023 Maserati GranTurismo have been revealed, showing off its exterior design.
Replacing the first-generation GranTurismo – which ended its 12-year production run in 2019 – Maserati’s new coupe is due in Australian showrooms towards the end of next year, with buyers given the choice of petrol or electric power.
In Modena and Trofeo grades, the Maserati GranTurismo will be powered by the ‘Nettuno’ 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, also fitted to the MC20 sports car and Grecale SUV.
While the V6 produces 463kW and 730Nm in the MC20 supercar, the GranTurismo is expected to receive a detuned version of the engine, likely closer to the Grecale SUV’s 390kW and 620Nm outputs – an improvement compared to the previous model’s 338kW/520Nm 4.7-litre Ferrari V8.
The electric GranTurismo Folgore will be the flagship GranTurismo variant, powered by three electric motors which can produce more than 883kW – according to Maserati’s claims.
The new GranTurismo’s styling is an evolution of the previous model’s, aligning the new coupe more closely with Maserati’s current line-up, such as the MC20 supercar and Grecale medium SUV.
The Maserati GranTurismo’s wide grille is flanked by two large air inlets for engine (and likely brake) cooling, while its LED headlights feature a daytime-running light signature similar to the MC20.
Maserati’s traditional three vents behind each front wheel remain, as does a sleek side profile, leading towards a sporty rear design.
Quad exhaust tips mounted towards the outer edges of the rear bumper contrast the previous model’s more centrally-mounted, dual tips.
Slimmer LED tail-lights also accentuate the new Maserati GranTurismo’s rear design.
Photos of the interior are yet to be released, however if the Grecale SUV is any guide, expect two or three screens running Maserati’s latest software.
The new GranTurismo is likely to become Maserati’s final coupe to be launched with a petrol engine, as the Italian marque plans to sell only electric cars by 2030 – while every model will feature an electric variant by 2025.
