Records are made to be broken: Mercedes-Benz G-Class raises sales ceiling, again

Just last month we celebrated a high watermark of G-Class sales, but the iconic off-roader has again knocked itself out of the park.

Exactly one month ago we marvelled at the fact that 103 deliveries of the Mercedes-Benz G-Glass had been reported for May.

We were perhaps a little early with the Cristal (apt for a G?), as for the month of June the big ‘Benz has lodged another 161 deliveries, a 56 per cent rise on May and a new sales record.

This takes the annual supply of G-Wagens to 333, just eight short of the 341 deliveries reported by 30 June 2021.

Looking at sales of the big G since mid-2014, it wasn’t until the arrival of the current W464-generation car in late 2018 that sales really took off.

Prior to December 2018, the G-Class sold an average of 50 units per six-month period. From June 2019 onwards, an average of 214 G-Class vehicles have been delivered to customers per half-year.

We’ll keep a track of sales over the next six months, and see if the 2022 full-year result is enough to set another record.
