A new video shows what happens to an armoured LandCruiser if it comes under attack from guns, grenades, and bombs.
What happens if you shoot up a 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series and then send 15 kilograms of TNT its way?
Probably nothing good if it’s a standard four-wheel-drive off a Toyota showroom floor, but Canadian company Inkas creates armoured cars for a variety of uses, including a modified LandCruiser 300 Series.
Inkas recently posted a video on its YouTube channel showing a brand-new LandCruiser development vehicle undergoing ballistic testing.
The armoured 300 Series withstood more than 780 rounds of ammunition from various calibres, as well as six roof-level hand grenades, four underbody hand grenades, and an explosion of 15kg of TNT from two metres – all of which meant the vehicle was able to attain its armoured certifications.
If the LC300 isn’t your cup of tea, the company produces armoured versions of the Lexus LX600, the Toyota Fortuner, HiLux, and Prado, or luxury SUVs from BMW, Land Rover, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce.
For those really wanting to fly under the radar, an armoured Toyota Camry can also be ordered from Inkas.
Rather than relying on aftermarket armoured cars, the Australian Federal Police now use ‘Protection’ models designed and manufactured by BMW to transport dignitaries and VIPs such as the Prime Minister.
In May 2021, Drive uncovered documents which suggested the AFP was beginning to upgrade its fleet to the current-generation BMW X5 Protection.
However, if you’re thinking about pulling the trigger on a bulletproof 300 Series (and maybe skip Toyota’s waiting list), be aware that armoured vehicle sales are highly restricted in Australia, and are subject to government approval.
