After persevering with an outdated range for the past few years and dipping to record-low market share, Nissan Australia is poised to embark on the biggest new model roll-out in memory.
With at least five brand-new models on the cards, it means Nissan will go from having one of the oldest showroom line-ups in Australia to one of the newest over the next 12 months.
Exact arrival timing and pricing are yet to be disclosed, but the roster of new models on the way include the new-generation Nissan Qashqai small SUV, Nissan X-Trail medium SUV, Nissan Pathfinder large SUV, and the Nissan Z sports car.

There is also a chance the Nissan Ariya electric SUV might make the cut by the end of 2022, or be pushed into 2023.
And the Nissan range could also be bolstered by series hybrid versions of the Nissan X-Trail SUV, which would deliver a head-on rival to the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid – as well as a hybrid version of the Qashqai SUV (known as E-Power).
Nissan Australia remains tight-lipped about which models are coming and when.
However in a recent interview with Drive, the boss of Nissan Australia Adam Paterson said: “We will have the freshest showroom in Australia next year – we believe, based on timing for competitors that we know – once we get all of our new products here.”
The brand has previously indicated the Qashqai will arrive in the first half of next year, followed by the Z, Pathfinder and X-Trail as the year progresses.
Mr Paterson said it will give Nissan Australia the chance to return to the Top 10 on a more regular basis – after falling outside the ranks some months, amid stock shortages during the pandemic this year.
“This is a great opportunity for us to really lift the brand,” said Mr Paterson. “I know we’ve fallen out of the Top 10 over the course of the last few months. That’s more supply driven than it is anything else.
“But we really think that having the freshest showroom … in the industry here next year is really going to help us get back to the position where we really deserve to be in this market.”
Nissan Australia says it is gunning for a return to six per cent marketshare (or represent six out of every 100 new cars sold), whereas currently the brand is tracking at 4.0 per cent market share year-to-date.
Although Nissan has ranked as high as fourth outright in 2004, at its peak in 2012, Nissan was the sixth-biggest selling brand outright in Australia with 79,500 sales and 7.2 per cent market share.
