The new heavy-duty off-road ute will be pitched as a competitor to the much-loved Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series.

Ineos Grenadier wagon and ute: THE Modern answer to Land Rover Defender
The Ineos Grenadier ute has been confirmed for Australia, with local representatives calling it a ‘core model’ for the brand.
Arrival timing is yet to be confirmed, but the ute won’t be ready for the Ineos Grenadier’s arrival in Australia – initially in wagon format only – in the second half of 2022.
Much like the configurable bodystyle of the Toyota LandCruiser and original Land Rover Defender, the ladder chassis and body-on-frame construction of the Ineos Grenadier makes it relatively easy to adapt the wagon into a ute.

The Grenadier ute could be a cab-chassis, or could be fitted with a styleside tub. The Grenadier ute could also get a boosted payload, and should maintain the 3500kg towing capacity of the Grenadier wagon.
Recent spy photos published by British publication Autocar show a prototype Grenadier ute with the stretched 3175mm wheelbase, up from 2922mm for the wagon.
This stretched wheelbase mimics the configuration of the original Land Rover Defender 130, which also got an increased GVM and payload, and came with a tub or bare chassis at the back.

Ineos Grenadier interior
The Grenadier ute will likely give the Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series some competition, with its heavy-duty construction, generous load capacities and (relatively) simple four-wheel-drive mechanical layout. The Grenadier will also compete with the likes of top-end utes such as the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger, as well as Jeep’s Gladiator.
Priced from $84,500 for a five-door two-seat wagon, the Ineos Grenadier is due in Australia in the second half of next year.
The Grenadier will be powered by BMW-sourced 3.0-litre turbo petrol and diesel engines, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Grenadier will have live axles front and rear – a rarity these days – along with a low-range transfer case and locking differentials.
