Local pricing and specifications for the 2018 Maserati Levante S have been detailed this week, with the petrol version of the Italian SUV now on sale in Australia from $169,990 plus on-road costs.
Sharing its Ferrari-built 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with various Maserati models like the Ghibli and Quattroporte, the Levante S develops a meaty 321kW of power and 580Nm of torque.
With the extra grunt over the 202kW/600Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel, the Levante S claims a 0-100km/h sprint in 5.2 seconds – 1.7 seconds quicker than the oiler – on its way to a top speed of 264km/h.
In addition to the introduction of the Levante S, the diesel variant has seen some upgrades, with the entire range now getting driver assistance systems like highway assist, lane-keep assist and active blind spot assist.
However, in order to add these safety systems, Maserati has installed electric power steering to the Levante range in favour of the previous hydraulic unit – make of that what you will.
The upgraded range also sees the addition of traffic sign recognition and a 360-degree camera as standard equipment.
Both the Levante diesel and Levante S come in three trim levels; standard (no name), GranSport and GranLusso. The latter two grades replace the Sport and Luxury variants offered on the outgoing Levante diesel.
The GranLusso gets the Zegna silk upholstery as standard (previously an option), along with a new soft-close function for the doors.
Other changes include five new alloy wheel options to compliment the plethora of personalisation options available across the Levante range.
Stay tuned to CarAdvice for our first local drive review of the Maserati Levante S later this week.
