Gordon Murray Design has teased its upcoming sports car this week in a single shadowy image.
Set to be launched under the reborn ‘IGM‘ brand – which stands for Ian Gordon Murray, the designer’s full name – the new vehicle is inspired by the legendary McLaren F1, and will use the lightweight iStream platform debuted in the reborn TVR Griffith.
However, the IGM sports car will use an even lighter version of the platform, dubbed ‘iStream superlight’. It provides an additional weight saving over the current process, delivering a structure that’s claimed to be 50 per cent lighter than one made of stamped metal, while also increasing rigidity and durability.
The company says the new model will “focus on light weight and driving pleasure”, and celebrates Gordon Murray’s 50-year career in automotive design.
Additionally, 2017 marks the 25th anniversary of the McLaren F1 – which Murray designed – and the 10th anniversary of Gordon Murray Design.
Details of Murray’s new supercar came during the One Formula exhibition, which is being held in Dunsfold Park, England. As part of the invitation-only expo, almost every race and road car penned by the British designer during his 50-year career, along with vehicles from his own collection – including the Lotus Elan, Honda S800 and a De Tomaso Vallelunga.
No firm date has been released for the official reveal and release of the new IGM model, nor have any details of the vehicle’s powertrain been revealed, so stay tuned to CarAdvice for more updates over the coming months.
