The next-generation Jeep Wrangler two-door has been spied ahead of its debut later this year.
We’ve seen quite a bit of the Wrangler Unlimited and the new Wrangler ute during the next-generation four-wheel drive’s development phase, but this is the first sighting in a while of the two-door model.
Although there’s camouflage and car bras aplenty, it’s clear the new Wrangler two-door, like the Unlimited, won’t diverge from the styling of today’s car.
Under the skin, though, the new Wrangler will feature a new platform, and will employ lightweight materials, including aluminium, to help improve the car’s overall fuel efficiency.
A report last month indicated the next-generation Wrangler will be available with a selection of engines, including a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, 2.2- and 3.0-litre turbo-diesels, and a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol motor.
The 2.0-litre turbo will reportedly be available in two states of trim, with the most powerful variant boasting around 225kW of power.
The new Wrangler will be available with either a hardtop, or a folding soft-top, both of which can be seen in these spy photos. Hardtop cars are said to be offered in either body colour or black.
Soft-top buyers will be able to choose between tan or black, and can also opt for electronic operation.
The new Wrangler two-door and Unlimited are expected to debut later this year, with the ute following some time next year. For the US, it’s said the current Wrangler will be offered as a cheaper, more spartan alternative to the new car.
