The Nissan Micra and Note light cars could be potential future candidates for the Australian market, according to the company’s local CEO.
Speaking with CarAdvice at the launch drive of the updated 2017 X-Trail range, Nissan Australia’s managing director and CEO, Richard Emery, said the two small models could possibly be offered locally in the future should the business case stack up.
“Certainly there’s a number of products around the world in the Nissan line-up that would potentially suit Australia,” he said.
“Micra is one of them, Note is another, and there will be a new generation of the Pulsar sedan on a global scale.”

However, the local boss maintained the company needed to be cautious of what and how many models it offers to avoid over-complicating the line-up.
Currently the sexy new-generation Micra is offered with a manual transmission only, making it an unlikely starter in Australia due to our preference for automatics.
However, should the little hatch become available with a self-shifter – perhaps a CVT – the local arm would definitely be interested in bringing it here.
Meanwhile, the Nissan Note (below) is a mini MPV offered in various markets like Europe and Japan, similar in design and concept to the popular Honda Jazz.
Last November the company revealed the Note e-POWER, equipped with a new range-extended hybrid system, using a small-capacity petrol engine to charge the batteries powering an electric motor, and doesn’t require plug-in charging.
Emery says Nissan Australia is committed to the passenger car business despite its lack of any entrants currently, following the discontinuation of the Altima and Pulsar sedans – though replacements for both are on the horizon according to the brand.
