Volkswagen has issued a recall for several models lines across the 2016 and 2017 model years over concerns the airbags and seatbelt tensioners may not deploy correctly in an accident.
The 340 vehicles affected include the popular Golf, Tiguan and Passat, along with commercial models like the Multivan and Amarok.
It’s reported that variations in the mixture ratio of the airbag propellant may prevent the airbags and/or the belt tensioners from deploying in the event of a collision, posing an increased risk of injury to occupants.
Affected model lines are as follows:
MY16 and MY17 Amarok
MY16 Golf
MY16 Multivan
MY16 Passat
MY16 Scirocco
MY16 Tiguan
MY16 Transporter
The VIN numbers for the recalled vehicles can be viewed here.
Owners of these models will be contacted by Volkswagen Australia via mail, and are encouraged to contact their local dealer or call the customer care line on 1800 607 822.
This latest notice follows Czech subsidiary Skoda’s recall for the same issue in its Superb hatch and wagon models earlier this week.
