The Audi e-tron Sportback Concept has been sketched out, rendered and teased ahead of its debut at the Shanghai motor show this week.
Although the concept bears the Sportback tag, the teasers released by Audi indicate it will be a high-riding crossover ‘coupe’ in the mould of the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.
Last month, Rupert Stadler, Audi’s chairman, told CarAdvice the luxury marque was keen to “fill the gaps” in its SUV range, with the Q4 and Q6 ‘coupes’ being the most likely additions to the range.
The e-tron Sportback Concept could well provide a few clues to the look of the Q6, and give us further insight into how Marc Lichte, Audi’s chief designer, plans to give the brand’s vehicles more differentiation and a visual oomph.
So far Audi has used the e-tron name on both plug-in hybrid and full electric vehicles. With this car’s grille area almost completely filled in, there’s a high chance the e-tron Sportback Concept will be a battery electric vehicle.
What’s not in doubt is that the Shanghai-bound concept car will be chock full of LEDs, whether they be in the head- and tail-lights, in the front fascia, or illuminating the brand’s interlocked rings.
