The Lynk & Co ’02’ sedan has been spotted undergoing hot weather testing in southern Europe.

Launched in October 2016, Lynk & Co is a new global brand for Geely, which will sit above the Chinese automaker’s own marque, but below Volvo.

Like the Lynk & Co 01 crossover, the new sedan is based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) that’s being developed by Volvo. As such, the new sedan, which we presume will go under the 02 name, will be closely related to the upcoming Volvo XC40 SUV, as well as the new generation versions of the S40 sedan and V40 hatch.

As with the 01 SUV, the new sedan looks as though it will feature a split headlight treatment, with a highly visible pod for the driving lights at the car’s front corners, and a hidden set of main and high beam units integrated into the grille.

Along the sides, the 01 and 02 share similar window shapes, and the 02 will also likely feature a chrome arc that stretches from the base of the windscreen, across the top of the side windows and C-pillar before it meets up with the rear windscreen.

In all likelihood, the new Lynk & Co sedan will be offered with the same drivetrain choices as the 01 SUV, which will reportedly be available with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines, and a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

Travelling with this 02 prototype is a disguised version of the 01 SUV, which looks to be unchanged from the car that debuted last year. The 01 is expected to go on sale later this year.
