Official press photos of the Citroen C5 Aircross have been leaked ahead of the car’s debut at the 2017 Shanghai motor show.
These images were initially published on a variety of sites, including Carscoops and Autocar, and show a new crossover that’s, stylistically at least, a toned down version of the Aircross concept, which debuted at the 2015 Shanghai show.
Believed to be targeted at the Chinese market, the C5 Aircross may eventually be sold in Europe and other global markets. With car buyers continuing to prefer crossovers to conventional body shapes, the new C5 Aircross could be a replacement, of sorts, for the current-generation C5 hatch and wagon, both of which are nearing their tenth birthday.
Under the skin, the Citroen C5 Aircross is thought to based on the version of the EMP2 platform currently being used by Peugeot 3008 crossover, and which will also serve as the basis of the Opel Grandland X.
As such, the C5 Aircross should use the same suite of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines employed by the front-wheel drive-only Peugeot 3008.
The new C5 Aircross and Peugeot 3008 have completely unique exterior and interior styling, although some shared components, such as the chunky transmission shifter, can be seen inside the cars.
